Honeymoon
in Switzerland
1 October 2000 - Sunday

Vicenza, Italy
Last Morning in Vicenza
We arose early to pack up and make our way to the next
destination of our honeymoon. This was Interlaken, Switzerland.
Traveling Italian-Swiss Alps
Interlaken, Switzerland
Andy had reserved the "Honeymoon Suite" from
Karen Brown's guide book. It was the Gasthof Hirschen. We
would arrive there later afternoon, as the drive took several hours.
But once upon our arrival, it was like a postcard that has unfolded.
Interlaken was a lake surrounded by the Alps. The water was a most
glorious serene front drop to the mountains that arose right off its
shores. The shores were speckled with chalets, cottages and
castles. We arrived at Hirschen to find a chalet from the 1660's,
that was "Swiss-Miss" inspired! The wooden balconies were
adorned with bright flower boxes. It was charming!

Strolling around Interlaken
Champagne before dinner
We settled into our room that looked out to the highest
peak of the Swiss Alps. The room was warm and cozy. Andy
immediately had champagne on ice and prepared for our festivities for the
night ahead of us.
We had our champagne in the quaint lobby surrounded by wood paneling
and fresh flowers. We laughed, we toasted, we reminisced, we planned
. . . in the cozy atmosphere as the rain was a soft drizzle outside.
Dinner at the Hotel Hirschen
After finishing the bottle of champagne, we went to begin our dinner.
Upon walking down the stairs, we were greeted by a group of 20+ yodelers.
They were dining there also and were commissioned to sing for a private
tour group on the room next to us. Well, Andy sent over a round of
whatever they were drinking and sure enough, we had our own private one
song concert. They were in full uniform and were just terrific.
Partying at Hotel Falken
We finished our dinner, which was outstanding and were ready to
"go out on the town". We walked into Interlaken and came
across a pub that had live music. We decided to stop in for an after
dinner drink. We were the only "tourists" in the
place. It definitely was a neighborhood hangout. However,
everyone was friendly and welcomed us to the first available table.
The music was two accordion players just having the time of their
life. They were a lot of fun. The locals would join in and
sing every so often, and Andy and I just clapped. They joined us -
as Andy once again bought the musicians a drink. Their English was very
broken, one of the gentleman had a better knowledge than the other, and
was able to answer a good portion of Andy's questions about the different
accordions.
Well, without further ado, before we knew it, we were up on stage and
our pictures being taken with the instruments. Of course, I was
embarrassed and thanked them immediately and exited the stage. Andy
went on, and was welcomed to play a little. He received an applause.
We stayed for a little while longer but felt that we should be on our
way. We walked around the town and headed back to the Inn.
Another romantic, glorious day in Switzerland.
