Honeymoon in Switzerland

2 October 2000 - Monday

Interlaken, Switzerland

Morning at the Hotel Hirschen

We arose the next day to low clouds and light drizzle, the perfect morning to cuddle up under the big down comforter.  We had our customary hearty breakfast and planned out our day.

Unfortunately the weather did not warrant to travel to the tops of the surrounding Alps for viewing the countryside.  So we opted to tour Interlaken and the close vicinity as we noticed many beautiful countryside manors.

Giessbach, Switzerland

Touring Giessbach Falls

We drove up to Giessbach Falls (the infamous spot of where Sherlock Holmes met his death!)  There was a magnificent waterfall and hiking trails for miles.  Unfortunately the weather was not cooperating and we did not take very long hikes.

Lunch at Grandhotel Giessbach

However, at the base of the water fall, was a 4-star hotel that overlooked the lake and the waterfall.  It was a beautiful piece of architecture that had been preserved to the tee.  We explored this hotel and decided to have lunch out on the enclosed veranda overlooking the waterfall.  The lunch and the scenery was second to none.

Brienz, Switzerland

Touring Ballenberg

After lunch we then drove to a place called Ballenberg.  This was referred to us by the manager/owner of the Inn.  It was hundreds of acres of recreated villages, buildings, barns, shops, etc. that reflected certain periods of time and location of Swiss history. We spent hours here and probably only covered 1/7 of the entire estate.  Andy played an antique piano, we fed the barnyard animals. It really was a slice of what life was like back then, truly fascinating.

Again, we returned back to our inn - it was fairly late in the afternoon and I had a chill to the bone.  I showered and warmed up as Andy continued with the tradition of the bottle of champagne before dinner.  This was to be our last night.  It was sad to think that our trip was coming to an end so quickly, but I was somewhat excited to return to the states, as a united "force", Mr. and Mrs. Morris, and begin our lives together forever.  In love, sharing the same dreams and interests, Andy would be my partner now and always.  I could not help but smile and thank God how lucky I was to have him in my life, my best friend, my partner, my love.
