22 September 2000 - Friday

Morning
Zurich, Switzerland
We
arrived in Zurich around 10:30 am. We scooted through customs and
grabbed our bags as they all arrived safely and non damaged. We made our
way through the modern, clean and quiet airport to the parking deck with
our car awaiting our arrival.
We were on our way out of Zurich, and headed east to our destination
of Fussen for the evening. We were planning on viewing the castles of
Ludwig II the next morning before meeting with family in Salzburg.
Walenstadt, Switzerland
Lunch overlooking the Walensee (Swiss lake)...
Afternoon
Vaduz, Leichtenstein
Quick stop to off the autobahn to relax for a few moments...
Fussen, Germany
We traveled on into Fussen. The town center was charming. It had
fountains and cobble-stone streets. Unfortunately, all rooms were
booked in the town due to the Passion Play. We returned to our car, and
drove five minutes back over to the Austrian border and found the last
available room in a Pension nestled in a valley.
It was a dairy barn
that had been converted to a B&B. It was called Gasthof Pension Sauling. The valley offered views of the
imposing Alps. Our room was in the front of the building, probably an
old hay loft. We stayed there for under $50 - both of us, including breakfast.
The room was adorable with pink comforters, an updated bath and wooden
furniture.
Evening
We quickly changed clothes and headed back into Fussen to have
dinner. We strolled through the town and took many pictures on a bridge
with a castle in the background. The night air was crisp and cold, like
the first days before a first snowfall of the season. We strolled arm in
arm and decided on dinner that was as German as they come. No English
was spoken, and men were abound, as it
seemed like a "local
hangout". We were served our dinners with no fork, but only a knife
to cut the entree and a wooden plate to do the "dirty work".
We ate ribs, leek casserole, potatoes, and wine.
We laughed and cuddled throughout dinner.
Once finished, we strolled back through town and decided that we
needed a night cap. Well, we "crashed" a private party, in
which we left immediately and went across the street to a bar that sat
right on the river. I ordered the house red, and Andy had beers. We
struck up conversations with some of the people sitting at the bar with
us. They offered us a shot of whiskey once they heard we were going to
be wed. Throughout the night, Andy and I spoke of plans of our
dream home in Virginia, our future together, travel plans, children and how lucky we
were to find each other. We grabbed each others hands and were off to
our room in the valley.
Oberpinswang, Austria
I wanted nothing more than to be liberated and uninhibited with my
future husband, and become one. He is the sexiest, most gentle lover
that I have ever experienced, as he proved it once again. We finally
fell asleep nestled under our big comforters, in our little room, and me
never feeling more in love, as I did at that moment.
