Honeymoon
in Italy
28 September 2000 - Thursday

Vicenza, Italy
We awoke to once again make love, neither one caring about the tossed
hair, the "reminders" left still from the love making the
previous evening, all we wanted was to make sure that the other knew how
much we both were in love with one another.
Morning Market in Vicenza
We later arose to embark on a new day. Andy served me cappuccino
with tea cookies on a tray with white china from the cafe around the
corner. It was truly yummy. They were served on a silver tray,
with white linen under the tea cups. After this romantic, but quick
breakfast, we were off to the train station in Vicenza. We were on
our way to Venice, or when in Italy, Venezia.

Venezia (Venice), Italy
Train Ride to Venezia
Arriving at Venezia
The train ride was about one hour. The day was a balmy 70
degrees, with beautiful clear blue skies. As we walked through the
train station upon arrival in Venice, the Grand Canal opened up right on
the other side. It was like I had walked onto a movie set. It
was exactly like I had read in books and seen in movies. It was
breathtaking. We immediately got on a water taxi and got a seat up
front and rode the boat to the Rialto bridge. We exited and walked
along the bridge. Here, shops lined the streets as it was a shoppers
dream come true. Andy and I only window shopped. I did not
want to spend too much time in one location while in Venice, because I
knew there would be so much more to see.
Strolling Around Venezia
It was a merchants haven. The sights, smells and sounds were
abound. Andy and I walked arm in arm continued to stroll through
town.

Our next destination was Piazza San Marco. Andy had stopped to
look at something, and I was a few paces ahead of him when we approached
the square. I turned the corner and was amazed what was in front of
me. Time had stood still for hundreds of years. The buildings
were magnificent structures of empires of yesterday. Pigeons covered
the marble and brick.

Touring the Palazzo
Ducale and the Basilica
Andy was at my side at this point and pointed out to the
left was the Basilica and the Bell Tower.

The duomo and the outside facade gleamed of it's mosaic tile. The
structure was magnificent, even from where we were standing. I could
not wait to get a closer look and tour the structure.
Andy purchased some corn to feed the pigeons. We both were
attacked by them and felt like we were in a Alfred Hitchcock movie.
We went on to tour the Palazzo Ducale. It was the former
residence for Archbishops. At this point, our tummies were
grumbling. We sought out a little trattoria in a back neighborhood,
it was called the Trattoria alla Madonna. I ordered the risotto, and
Andy had fresh fish. It was delicious. The service was
fabulous and the ambiance was quaint.

After lunch we strolled and looked through the shops on the square at
St. Mark's. This is some of the most exquisite shopping I have ever
seen. It was top of the top, Burberry's to Gucci to hand Italian
fabric, made to order clothing. The Italian's sure know their
fashion!
Cocktails in
Piazza San Marco
Stephanie and I enjoyed sipping cocktails at the Caffè Florian in the
Piazza San Marco (St. Mark's Square). The music was a wonderful
orchestra with two violins, one accordion, one grand piano and a bass.
We decided to take a break and settle in at a little cafe on the
square. We sat outside and listened to a wonderful five piece
orchestra play. We ordered some drinks - Andy an Armanquac and I a
kir. We both basked in the sun and the music.
I felt so thankful, happy and utterly in love. I recall thanking
God for all the goodness he had showered upon us.
More Cocktails in
Piazza San Marco
After a couple of drinks, we strolled through town. As two young in
love people do, giggling, kissing and having not a care in the world. We
stopped to take pictures of the gondolas, the buildings, the scenery. We
were no more than two inches (excluding taking pictures :) from one
another the whole day. We were too busy enjoying the romance and seduction
that the city cast upon two us.
Dinner in Venezia
As the sun went down, our next big decision was were to have
dinner. We decided on a restaurant at the bend where one could rent
the gondolas. We had a private corner table on the veranda. In
the background music could be heard. It varied from accordions to
guitars as the tourists settled in their boats to be serenaded by the
gondola drivers. It was so romantic.
We sat by candlelight and reminisced about the day. The food
again, was exceptional as we shared our entrees.

We decided to walk back to the train station vs. hopping in a water
taxi. We ended up taking a few wrong turns as the streets in Venice
are very confusing. We however, did not mind, as the evening was
delightful and we enjoyed each other's company as we meandered our way
back to the station, stopping every so often to sneak in a kiss.
Unfortunately, we were pretty tired at this point and were not paying
much attention to the train schedule. We boarded the wrong train and
ended up in Treviso , a town north of Venice. We hopped out, as this was
the last stop for the train (we both had fallen asleep on the trip) and
had to take a cab back to our hotel in Vicenza. As I write this, the
main point was that it really did not matter much that we had gotten
lost. The truth was that I was just so happy to be with Andy, curled
up asleep in his lap in the train and in the cab. I know he was as
exhausted as I was, but he stayed awake during the hour or so cab ride
back to ensure that he delivered us safely back to the hotel. I knew
from this moment forward that Andy would always take care of me and our
family, at no matter what cost to himself.
After we said our prayers, we fell asleep immediately.
