Holiday in Virginia

Our first stop was the Appomattox Courthouse where Robert E. Lee surrendered to Grant to end the Civil War.  We toured the McLean house where the generals signed the papers.

Next, the first picnic of many began.  We spent the afternoon enjoying Virginia wine from Jefferson Vineyards and food from a nearby deli at Ash Lawn Highland, the home of James Monroe.  We picked up a case of wine from the Jefferson Vineyards.

After the picnic we toured the house and grounds.

Before heading back to Charlottesville to check in at the hotel, we stopped off at the town of Schyler where the Waltons TV series was based on.
