Our first stop was the Appomattox Courthouse where Robert
E. Lee surrendered to Grant to end the Civil War. We toured the
McLean house where the generals signed the papers.

Next, the first picnic of many began. We spent the
afternoon enjoying Virginia wine from Jefferson
Vineyards and food from a nearby deli at Ash Lawn
Highland, the home of James Monroe. We picked up a case of wine
from the Jefferson Vineyards.
